Ingredients
2 pounds russet or red potatoes
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
¾ to 1 cup milk
salt and pepper
Instructions
Peel potatoes.
Cut them in 4 pieces and cover with cold water.
Boil and then simmer the potatoes in salted water until they are soft and tender (15-20minutes).
Drain potatoes, put them back on low heat for a minute or so.
Take them off.
Add butter and milk.
Mash the potatoes until they are smooth and add some more salt and pepper for the taste (try them).

the butter before the milk because then its still hot when you put the butter in if you put milk in first it might cool down the potatoes first
