OK, now lets get started with a simple mashed potato recipe. We will try, and start with a simple recipe, one that most of you probably already know (or not, if you found this website) but we must start somewhere. Later we will try other recipes, that make this food much more that just a few potatoes mashed together :).
Recipe: Simple Mashed Potato Recipe
Summary: The easiest way to make mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds of potatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of milk (or you can use half and half – half milk & half cream)
- 6 tablespoons of butter
- pepper
Instructions
- First you need to peel and quarter the potatoes. Throw all the cut potatoes into a large pot and cover them with cold water. Make sure the water is cold and make sure the potatoes are covered by the water by an inch or so. Add salt, put the pot on your stove and bring the water to a boil. When it starts boiling you can turn the heat down a bit, so your stove doesn’t get all messy.
- The potatoes should be cooked in about 15 minutes, depends on the potatoes, the size in which you cut them etc… You know they are cooked when they are tender when you try and pierce them with a knife.
- Pour away all the water and drain the potatoes. You can then put them back on the stove and cook them on low heat for a while so that some more water evaporates. This will make the potatoes taste better. If you are in a hurry, you can skip this, most people do, but then again, we are not most people.
- Mash the potatoes and blend in milk and butter. This is also the time to add some other things if you like, but for this first Simple Mashed Potato Recipe we will live it like this. Sure you can add some salt and pepper according to your taste.
- And you are done. Is this simple or what :)?!

What I can not believe!
You used the word “cocked” when you meany cooked and “tomatoes” when you meant potatoes in you Simple Mashed Potato Recipe and, really, this title should say Potatoes plural, not Potato singular
Arrrgh… fixed :)
